چکیده

Punctured convolutional codes are known to have low complexity compared to their nonpunctured counterpart, while retaining a good performance. Analyzing the performance of punctured convolutional code can be simplified by using non-punctured equivalent code. In this paper new punctured convolutional codes with rates of 3/8, 3/7 and 3/6 are proposed, and their performances are studied by first constructing non-punctured equivalent codes. Simulation results show that different puncturing patterns will affect the code performances. Further investigations show that puncturing adjacent bits is to be avoided as it tends to degrade the code performance, as indicated by a decrease of the free distance by 9% and 33% below average for code rates 3/7 and 3/6 respectively. On the contrary, dispersed punctured bits will yield good code performance as indicated in the increase of the free distance by 27% and 32.45% above average for code rates 3/7 and 3/6 respectively.

BER analysis of OFDM based WIMAX using Punctured Convolutional codes

In this paper, simulation model of OFDM based WIMAX system has been developed using punctured convolutional codes. The bit error rate performance of fixedWIMAX has been carried out for different modulation techniques like BPSK, QPSK, and QAM16 with different code rates 1/2, 2/3, 3/4 in each case of modulation technique. Puncturing is the process of deleting some parity bits from the code-word a...

Concatenated space–time trellis codes with optimal puncturing patterns

The performance of space–time trellis codes (STTCs) serially concatenated with convolutional codes and Bose–Chaudhuri–Hocquenghem codes is evaluated over quasistatic Rayleigh fading channels. The STTCs are used as inner codes since they provide diversity owing to their multi-antenna nature. The loss in spectral efficiency incurred due to the added redundancy from the outer codes is dealt with b...

Seamless Data-Rate Change Using Punctured Convolutional Codes for Time-Varying Signal-to-Noise Ratios

In a time-varying signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) environment, symbol rate is often changed to maximize data return. However, the symbol-rate change has some undesirable effects, such as changing the transmission bandwidth and perhaps causing the receiver symbol loop to lose lock temporarily, thus losing some data. In this article, we are proposing an alternate way of varying the data rate without ...

Some Extended Results on the Design of Punctured Serially Concatenated Convolutional Codes

The aim of this paper is twofold. On one hand, it presents the results of the search for good punctured systematic recursive convolutional encoders suitable for application in serially concatenated convolutional codes (SCCCs) operating in two different target regions: at low-to-moderate signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), i.e., in the so-called waterfall region, and at high SNRs. On the other hand, ...

An efficient algorithm for the reconstruction of punctured convolutional codes

Puncturing is one of the methods of increasing the code rate, and the original code before puncturing is called the mother code. Any (N, K) convolutional code is obtainable by puncturing some (n, 1)mother codes. The objective of a blind recognition of a channel code is to obtain its generator from the intercepted noisy bit stream. The process of the blind recognition of punctured convolutional ...
